Early morning on the Sheksna River

Early morning on the Sheksna River

Today we sailed along the Sheksna River, which connects the Rybinsk reservoir and the White Lake. At about noon we reached the village of Goritsy, population 600, and drove eight kilometres to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. There was a re-enctment of the Polish attack on Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery that happened to coincide with our visit. It wasn’t stagedfor the foreign tourists but for the locals. After wandering through the monastery for two hours we boarded our boat and sailed towards our next destination, Kizhi. Just before we entered the White Lake the remains of the Krokhino Church, which was flooded when the Russians built a hydroelectric power station nearby. Once again the day ended with some stunning scenes as the sun set at about 2300hrs.
