DSC_4018 BanosAfter our Amazonia adventure we drove from Coca to Baños, 325 kilometre, through some spectacular scenery. Once again we had to drive through the mist covered hills and mountains of the Andes.

It was late afternoon when we reached the town of Baños and we were happy to relax at our hotel with a hot cup of coffee after our 8-hour drive.

We could hear the rumbling of Tungurahua volcano and I was told that on a clear night the red glow could be seen. However, our stay in Baños was always cloudy and misty. After hearty breakfast we drove up the hill overlooking Baños hoping that the clouds and mist would clear so that we could get a view of Tungurahua. It was not to be.

So after a short stop in the town centre we headed off on the next leg of our journet to Cuenca, a 340-kilometre drive.

We did happen to get a view of Tungurahua but its summit was still shrouded by clouds.
